BROKEN CRAYONS - The Missing Chapters
BROKEN CRAYONS - The Missing Chapters
While I was initially writing BROKEN CRAYONS in 1994 to be published by Kendal-Hunt I had 3 more chapters in rough form that dealt with the reality that people are often metaphorically, emotionally, psychologically, physical also
BROKEN CRAYONS
and have trouble functioning or need help or institutionalization like PATCH ADAMS did or the patients in
AWAKENINGS
or nearly every single ROBIN WILLIAMS movie he ever starred in.
When I shared my roughs for BROKEN CRAYONS two of my mentors and strongest supporters
SID & BEA PARNES
recommended that I leave out these 3 chapters.
Now after 22 years since BROKEN CRAYONS was first published I am finally writing and publishing
THE MISSING CHAPTERS
focused on human BROKEN CRAYONS
Chapter BC 13
Who and What are HUMAN BROKEN CRAYONS?
Chapter BC 14
How can professionals help HUMAN BROKEN CRAYONS?

Well, I don't know. People as Broken Crayons? I thought that the theme was that broken crayons allow you to go beyond the ordinary, the customary, the rigid restrictions.
ReplyDeleteAre you using Broken Crayons in the previous sense when you talk about people being broken crayons?
Thanks for your direct comment to this blog post.
ReplyDeleteThe initial analogy for this book is that PEOPLE are CRAYONS....
filled with COLOR. In actuality they possess a variety to infinite COLORS.
BROKEN CRAYONS in the original book was a metaphor of media, materials
and that we can usually do much more with BROKEN CRAYONS
that perfectly formed wrapped crayons.
That is all explained in the original book.
The intent for these 3 chapters is to use the metaphor
of CRAYONS as People and BROKEN CRAYONS as people have problems or in trouble needing help.
